Few Fav's from Algebra Journal

When I took the latest Tim Holtz Chemistry 103 class, I created the new techniques in a Dyan Reaveley's journal from Ranger where I had taken the signatures completely apart. I loved being able to try the new techniques on both sides of the signature pages and then choosing whether I wanted them in the finished journal or not. I was also able to determine the order in which the pages appeared. It was super easy to make a Copic binding when I finished making the backgrounds because the holes were already punched. I also divided the pages into three different color themes.

I love all the layering that happens when you use the distress inks, stencils and rubber stamping.

My book is packed full so I was not able to have it lay flat when I took photos.

I have always loved this rubber stamp image in my collection.  I researched his name to read about him - super interesting!

I fuzzy cut an image that was from an vintage Christmas card and added it to my page.

French Journal

The French language book is from the 1920's and small in size.  I am using the covers only.  The covers are punched for a spiral binding along with all the pages.

I like working on pages unbound. I can sew, rubber stamp, paint, etc. without having to adjust for gutters or uneven surfaces which make rubber stamping a super challenge.  Having unbound pages also gives you freedom to decide the order in which you want your finished pages to appear.

This is the inside cover with the loose pages punched and ready to go.  I have made all the pages using manila card stock.  Presently, I am on page ten - completed book to follow.

Tribute to Susan

It's a new beginning for the members of our art group. There have been a few artists that joined our group and left but there has always been the core group of six artists that participated from the very beginning which is now about fifteen years. We were fortunate to have Susan who was our moderator. I'm certain it hasn't always been an easy task. We were probably a bit like herding kittens. I had requested that each member of our current art group make a signature with the theme of "In the Company of Women". I would bind the book when all the signatures were completed. There were amazing pages and I made a private link so the group could view everyone's art. I've posted my contribution for Susan showing my steps to completion.

Tiny Altered Book - Life's Little Secrets

My new altered book is a vintage address book with a thin leather cover and sewn binding. I removed most of the pages to make it a ten page book and leaving me plenty of space for the contents. This tiny book will contain life's little secrets. My inspiration came from an online video and I decided to try "the new to me" technique on a small book before going big.

 

 

Cowgirl Jessica!

My friend Melinda's daughter, Jessica is quite the cowgirl. She is graduating from high school and appreciates hand made things instead of store bought gifts. I recently had tags published in the RubberStampMadness issue for "Days Gone By". I made a different book cover for Jessica than the one that I submitted because I wanted to find a leather piece from my stash that represented a saddle. Congrats as she earned a few ribbons over the weekend in a barrel racing competition! I added quotes on the back of each tag for her.

I did make the inserts for the tags that was different than the original submission.  I separated the pockets using sewing instead of grommets.  The accordion folded book contained four pockets with a map background of areas where her family has taken camping trips.

This is one of the quotes that I added to each of the tags.
